Everyone understands the significance of keeping the bathroom and kitchen sinks clean and tidy. Since we use both these sinks daily, the drains may clog. The blocked drain could result out of many things. It may happen that while shaving or combing, some of your hair gets clogged in the drain. Or while in the kitchen when you’re cleaning the dishes, some of the leftover foods creep their way down the drain where they are not decomposed and hence cause a problem.
Before you start searching for solutions, you need to determine what kind of clogs you are experiencing. There can be primarily two types, an entirely blocked drain, and a partially blocked drain. Once you have established this, it becomes easier for you to determine the line of treatment and carry on with the process of unclogging.
Here Are Some Ways by Which You Can Treat Both Fully and Partially Blocked Drains:
Plunging
In case of an entirely blocked drain, it is advised that we use a toilet plunger. It is required at first that you fill the sink about halfway before you start the process of plunging. You also need to ensure that you have water in the plunger before you begin with the process. If you don’t fill in water in the plunger, you might be wasting a lot of energy. With water in it, the plunger can transfer the power supplied by you with a much higher force which is very helpful in clearing out the clogs.
The process of plunging is easy. All you have to do is cover the whole of the drain with the plunger. And then press and pull rapidly for at least 35 seconds. Then you need to check up on the results. If the water is draining out slowly, you will have to try more, but on the other hand, if water drains out rapidly, you have successfully cleared your blocked drain. Plunging is a prevalent technique which is used by various households to clear their blocked drain.
Baking Soda With Elements
Another common unclogging technique is treating the drain with baking soda along with other elements. There are a few quick fixes that you could try to unclog your partially blocked drain.
Baking Soda Along With Vinegar
We all have done this little experiment of a volcano in our science classes. Hence, we all aware that baking soda, along with vinegar causes an eruption. What we did not know then was that this combination acts as a great cleaning agent for our blocked drain. Mix 1/3 baking soda with 1/3 vinegar and pour it down your drain before all the fizz runs out. The reaction will help in removing grime, hair and also grease. Let the solution sit for an hour or overnight if you have the time and then flush it all down with hot water. Alternatively, you can also first chug dry baking soda down the drain and then follow with the vinegar. These help a great deal in clearing out a blocked drain.
Baking Soda Along With Salt
Another simple experiment that we had done when we were younger was gauging in the reaction of baking soda with table salt. This is also a simple method to get rid of the nastiest blocked drain. All you have to do is dump down a mixture of ½ cup of table salt along with ½ cup baking soda and follow it up by pouring down boiling water. Let the mixture sit for 20-30 minutes.
These are some of the most common methods of getting rid of a blocked drain.
