There is only so much space to work within your bathroom. Whether you’re a first-home buyer or an experienced homeowner, knowing what appliances will be the right style and appropriate size can be difficult. There is very little room to move in bathrooms, and changing the positioning of fittings and appliances can be risky. There can be millimeters between having a great orchestrated bathroom and a bad one. Everything has to be fitted correctly, from the shower screens to the gold bathroom sinks.
The sink is as important as anything in the home. Many factors can determine what product you choose to use in your bathroom. Depending on the bathroom, the price, and the size of the product, it can affect the look you are aiming for. There are different styles of bathroom sinks that could be used in your bathroom space. Which one would be right for you?
Top-Mount Sink
Also known as a “drop-in sink,” this sink style is designed to sit on top of your bathroom bench. One of the most commonly used sinks, most top-mount sinks sit below the benchtop, with the rim sitting above it. These are great for ensuites and any benchtop materials, including timber and laminate. The cutout for the sink covers the benchtop and prevents any risk of leaking water.
Under-Mount Sink
Great for people who love to clean their benches, the Under-mount sink sits underneath the benchtop. Unlike the top mounts installed over it, the sink’s rim is inserted underneath the benchtop. This creates an incredibly seamless look and helps clean spills directly from the benchtop to the sink without any spills. Another great feature of this type of sink is the great transition of the sink, which is actually visible unless looking over the top of the bench.
Wall Mounted Sinks
While they are not popular for family bathrooms and ensuites, this sink has a simple and sophisticated design, with the sink fixed directly to the wall. While minimalistic, the benchtop is non-existent, thus creating a bathroom that appears much bigger than it is. For this to be implemented, all the plumbing and waste must be inserted directly into the wall for the clean and trendy look to be appropriate for the space. While it is a great way to save space in a smaller bathroom, the lack of storage leaves your bathroom without space for bathroom necessities.
Semi Recessed Basin
This tremendous space-saving implementation is excellent for individuals who have limited space. It is great for ensuites and average bathrooms that need storage. An increased number of cabinets allows for valuable benchtop space. These can be great for family members and friends who have limited mobility or disabilities, as they can easily reach taps and cabinets without it being obstructive for their daily use.
When purchasing the right sink for your bathroom, choosing a style of product that will work both now and in the future is incredibly important. Even though you can’t predict the future, it is always good to be prepared to have the necessities in place. Having a top-mounted sink may be great for a couple. However, a couple with a child may need something more accessible for their children.
