The summer days are finally upon us. It’s time to plan for those long-awaited family gatherings, outdoor barbeques, and summer holiday festivities. After a long winter of cold and dreary weather, that deck may need a little sprucing up. Here are four ways to make that deck a place that you, your family, and your friends can enjoy.
Create A Space Of Comfort
A deck is like an extension of the home. It needs to provide you with the same creature comforts that you find in your living room, dining room, and kitchen. Creating a cooking area that is equipped with all the kitchen essentials tends to be the primary step that homeowners make when planning their patio. It is essential not to overlook comfort. Creating a seating area with patio furniture such as wicker chairs, porch swings, and sturdy tables is crucial in setting a pleasant atmosphere for gatherings. Consider an assortment of canvas-upholstered pillows for added comfort in a variety of colors to give that deck some extra pizzazz.
Add Festive Lighting
Daytime summer outings often continue into dusk. If you plan on spending many evenings entertaining out on the deck, you may want to consider adding some extra lighting. You can string lights from the edge of the roof or even through outdoor plants. Stair lights or lights beneath the railing can add a touch of ambiance while also providing safety. Tiki torches and candles that are placed in safe areas can provide extra festive lighting while also keeping the mosquitos away.
Give That Deck A Makeover
One of the very first things you may want to consider when getting ready for those upcoming summer holidays is to give that deck a makeover. Long months of uncertain winter weather can take a toll on deck and patio materials, making wood fade and even warp or crack. If your deck is looking a bit old for its age and in need of a makeover, you may want to contact local deck builders that can provide you with the services you need to give that deck a look it deserves.
Create A Garden Escape
Gardens aren’t just for the yard anymore. You can create a garden oasis right on the deck or patio to be enjoyed all summer long. This can also be an efficient way to create a natural screen between you and neighbors if you happen to live beside each other. Place a variety of large potted plants of varying sizes along a railing that faces an area you wish to hide. Placing the seating area strategically beside the plants will provide anyone who is sitting there a feeling of sanctuary and privacy.
The only thing better than walking out onto a beautiful deck on a warm summer’s night, relaxing on patio furniture piled high with soft pillows, and sitting beneath festive lighting and gently swaying foliage, is being able to share it with friends and family.
I actually like this garden oasis idea a lot! Right on the patio, I would love to have a kind of garden set like this!
I’m loving that garden idea too! It would be perfect to add some more flowers and install retaining walls on it. And then the patio in the middle!
That first picture looked so cozy and comfortable! And not to mention the view that the visitors can see. It’s awesome!
I would like to have a full deck makeover. Mine’s just super messy and so old-looking. Is it a good idea to have a lighting right above the wood floors like in the picture? I’m afraid it’ll be too dangerous specially with kids around.
