General Tips When Looking After Indoor Plants
With some of the below basic guidelines, you should be able to look after your greens without any hassles, whether you have a green thumb or not.
Providing your plants with enough water and once a week is recommended. If you stick your finger in the soil, and the first top inch is dry, that’s indication enough to water it again. It must be moist and not drenched or wet. Always use room temperature water to wet the soil.
Potting them is easy; you choose a pot that has drainage at the bottom, and by this, we mean one with holes, so no water gets retained inside the pot if you do end up overwatering it. Choose a porous material, for instance, clay or ceramic.
Choose the best place for them to get adequate sunlight. Some plants may need only indirect sunlight, so make sure you know which is which by asking the flower store or doing some research yourself. If you do put them in direct sunlight, make sure it is only for half an hour at most. However, if they are kept in an indirect spot, they need at least 16 hours per day.
Don’t shift your plants around too much. If you move them around too much, they may lose their acclimation. Moving them from a dark area to a light one can hinder their growth progress. If you need to do this, do it slowly, a step at a time.
Humidity is good for them. When you place the plants in a dry air room, it will harm them and dry their leaves out. Hence, humidity can help if you don’t have enough of it in the area. Plants like cacti especially don’t do well in dry atmospheres. You can get a room humidifier to help with this.
Use fertilizer. Using the right types of fertilizer is also advantageous to feed them with the right nutrients. Make sure to divide the soil and fertilizer in a ratio of 50:50, and don’t forget to add water to it. Potting soil that has a high Nitrogen value is a recommended choice and can be bought from most plant stores.
