Timber flooring is made with more than one layer of wood, and those layers can reach 11 segments or more. The majority of the timber floor is found with three or five layers. There are two main categories of timber floors, unfinished and prefinished.

Unfinished timber flooring comes with a natural appearance, and the sanding and coating are done on site. A water-based coating is used for the unfinished flooring.

Prefinished timber flooring does not require any sanding and coating on site as it is already done in the factory. A UV Coating is applied to the Pre-finished flooring, and the wood is ready to be carved.

  • Reclaimed Timber Flooring – These f floorboards are made from used lumber, that has been taken from old houses and barns. The wood is trimmed and sanded, and some of those planks may even have knots, slight stains and even nail holes.
  • Bamboo Timber Flooring – Another timber floor that is fast rising in popularity and demand is the bamboo floor. It not only looks great as a flooring material but is pleasing to the eye and very durable. It also makes for a sustainable choppier as bamboo grows very fast.

The finishing Layers: 

Based on the type of timber flooring you may go for; the finishing layer can vary. The coating may consist of different looks and components.

  • UV-Cured Water-Based Lacquer – The lacquer protects the floor against wear and scratches, and thus, it is a lot easier to maintain.  The modified oil between the layers creates extra matt and support.
  • Face Layer – The face layer is typically 3 mm thick and comes in a vast array of colors. It can be sanded and refinished.
  • Core layer– The core layer is what makes a timber flooring stable and durable under all conditions. The hardness of the core material is essential for ensuring a smooth and secure connection.
  • Backing Layer – The backing layer of spruce or pine in grouping with the other layers prevents the timber from cupping or warping.
