Why Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Is Important

Have you ever been late to work and take a shortcut, only to find rubble instead of a road? Sewer line replacement is a massive job. It is time-consuming and causes inconvenience to all. Thankfully, advancements in technology have evolved the world of plumbing by introducing ‘no-dig’ trenchless technology.

What is Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement

Metal or PVC pipes are the main components of sewer lines, and after a while, these can begin to crack or leak. Leaking sewer lines pose a problem for the city. Water will flood the ground underneath, and if not found, can cause foundations to weaken. Trenchless sewer line repair requires fast action, which is where trenchless technology comes in.

Traditionally, sewer line replacements required the excavation of the affected pipe’s surrounding area. Trenchless technology offers a cost-effective and time-saving method that can persevere, with minimum to no digging. There are several ways to do trenchless technique:

  • Directional Boring

This method calls Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). Pipes and conduits are installed in the required area by inserting them through a boring path. This ensures minimum damage to the area and can be completed within three to four days. Additionally, boring is the least invasive for surrounding constructions.

  • Pipe Lining

Also called Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP), this is a popular technique for sewer line replacement. In this method, special epoxy resins are used to create pipes within the prevailing pipe. Trenchless technology helps create a durable and sturdy pipe without weakening floors or landscapes.

  • Pipe Bursting

This trenchless technique pulls a bursting head with a larger diameter through old or buried pipes. A new pipe is then replaced in place of the old sewer line pipes. The excavation hole for this method is a maximum of 4 feet.

  • Thumping

Non-directional boring is best for areas where excavation isn’t possible. We dig a small pit and insert a receiving line. Once it reaches the other end, a pipe is attached and pulled back into place.

  • Hydro Evacuation

High-pressure water is used to loosen the soil as a non-destructive digging method. This mitigates the risk present to other underground structures

Why Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Is Important

Trenchless technology has risen to fame due to its environment-friendly and affordable nature. It saves time and is cost-effective. Trenchless technology is the best way for quicker sewer line replacements, which can be difficult and highly inconvenient for the population if repaired through excavation.

The Benefits of Going trenchless

The advantages of Trenchless technology are

  • Decreased disruptions and minimum sound pollution
  • Superlative safety
  • Improved accuracy

Cost-effectiveness of Trenchless Replacements

As there are no digging requirements, trenchless technology is highly cost-effective for pipeline replacements. A significant chunk in sewer line replacement costs comes from the cost of digging. Excavation costs can drive up total expenditure due to the equipment employed during the job. Digging is a risky business and poses a threat to the underground network of pipes and cables.

Life Span of Trenchless Replacements in Hamilton

Trenchless technology incorporates the usage of premium-grade products, which result in durable and sturdy solutions to cracked and leaking pipes. Efficient trenchless sewer line replacements can last up to 50 years in places such as Hamilton in Canada, where there is frequent rainfall.
