For the last couple of years, I have been going through some difficult times in my life. My finances had seen to become a mess, I had gained twenty pounds, and my life was in a total rut. Suffice it to say I was not very happy and felt like I started to enter into a downward spiral where things just became worse every single day.
A friend of mine recommended that I hire a life coach, and one of the first things she recommended was that I make my home more feng shui friendly (Feng Shui claims to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. The feng shui practice discusses architecture in terms of “invisible forces” that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as qi.).
When my life coach first entered my home, I think she noticed how cluttered my home was and that I had not done a good job of creating a positive living environment. The truth was that I had gotten a bit lazy and let things get pretty bad around the house. The energy did not flow very well, and I didn’t put much effort into how I kept the place up.
She told me, “Your home is a reflection of your soul. If you want to create a better outcome on the outside, you must first start on the inside.” At first, I thought it was just a bunch of new-age nonsense. But as I did some research, I came across this from The Huffington Post:
Living Room
The living room is the heart of the home and where most family activities are carried out. Keep this area free from clutter and introduce a lot of natural light and plants. Avoid heavy curtains and choose a couch that is raised off the floor with legs. This helps to create a positive flow of energy within the room. If possible, try to position the couch against a wall so it doesn’t break up space in the room.
The Kitchen
In Feng Shui, the kitchen represents abundance. If you want to attract abundance and good fortune into your life, you need to keep your kitchen clean and your counters free from clutter. Never leave dirty dishes in the sink, as this is said to drain positive energy. Keeping a plant or herb garden in the kitchen is said to promote vibrant and harmonious energy.
So I decided to keep an open mind and put these tips into action, and I must say that as soon as I did, my life began to perk up. It was such a great feeling to finally get all the clutter out of my house and rearrange how things were set up. When I came home, I felt so much happier that it energized me to want to do more. Little by little, I could see improvements starting to take shape in all areas of my life.
After making many of these changes, I can see what my life coach was trying to teach me, and I am very grateful for these life lessons.
