Moving house is something that most of us will do many times in their lives, and it’s essential to try to make these occasions as stress-free as possible.
There are a few things that most people tend to leave until the last minute that should be done well in advance while shifting from one place to another. We’ve put together six handy moving ideas for a new house checklist:
Connect The Internet
The internet is the most crucial thing nowadays. This needs to be booked for at least three weeks before your shift. Internet service providers are often booked weeks in advance, so you need to do this in advance. Living in a new house without the internet can be very frustrating and inconvenient as if it may be hard to find emergency services like plumber, doctor, or just food nearby. Nowadays mobile plan and Wi-Fi is easily available, but if you have broadband on your own, you can enjoy hassle-free, whether the mobile network issue occurs.
Connect Your Energy
When you move house, you need to disconnect the energy in the previous tenants’ name and reconnect it in your new home. The process is quite simple; you just call your energy provider, give them your shifting address, your preferred connection dates, contact numbers and identification, and concession details if applicable. It’s essential to this just before you move, so when you move to the new place, you would not have to face electricity or water or gas line issues.
Plan For Children & Pets
If you have small kids or pets, make sure you’ve thought about what young children and pets will do on the day. Advance plan for kids and pets will also keep them secure from any influence. Ask a friend or family member to help out so you can focus on organizing the move.
Change Your Address
Inform your office, your bank, your telephone exchange, your relatives, and your daily service (laundry, courier, etc.). It’s best to do this as early as possible, so you don’t have to rely on the new tenants of your old home to forward your mail.
- Don’t forget to update magazine or box-style subscriptions.
- Contact your car insurance and registration provider about change in address.
- Update your details on the electoral roll
- Update your details with all superannuation funds
Professionally Cleaned House Before Shifting
Theoretically speaking, most properties will be given a professional clean before the previous owners moved out. Still, in some cases, a house will be empty for an extended period, which means it will need to be clean once again before you move in. Make sure you hire professional cleaners who specialize in house cleans and have them steam the carpets and do a thorough job on the bathrooms and kitchen.
Pack A First Night Box
The first night box is essential to a successful move, just like an unpacking box. It should contain a change of clothing, basic toiletries, toilet paper, night suit, towels, bed linen, or any other essentials you may require like tea bags or a coffee plunger. It makes such a big difference to the comfort of your first night in the new home, so you aren’t frantically searching through boxes at midnight trying to find your toothbrush.
