Homeowner’s Annual Cleaning Guide

Does the thought of thoroughly cleaning your house seem overwhelming? Don’t stress — you don’t have to do everything in a single day! The solution to keeping your home neat, clean, and well-maintained is as simple as breaking down housekeeping tasks into a manageable list and scheduling your chores by day, week, month, season, and year.

Do these chores daily to keep your home healthy and comfortable:

  • Make the beds
  • Pick up clutter
  • Wipe up spills
  • Clean kitchen surfaces
  • Sweep kitchen floor
  • Wash the dishes
  • Wipe bathroom surfaces
  • Sanitize light switches; door handles, TV remotes

Weekly Chores

  • Dust shelves and furniture
  • Sweep, mop or vacuum floors
  • Change and launder towels and sheets

  • Empty wastebaskets and put out the trash
  • Weed the garden (summer)

Monthly Chores

  • Dust/wipe cabinets and baseboards

Quarterly Chores

  • Check smoke alarm and CO2 detector batteries
  • Change furnace and air conditioning filters
  • Clean out closets
  • Clean trash cans and recycling bins
  • Wash pillows, blankets, comforters
  • Turn over mattresses
  • Clean the interiors of oven and refrigerator
  • Replace baking soda in refrigerator and freezer
  • Discard expired food in the pantry
  • Wash the windows
