The first chairs, richly decorated with carvings and precious metals, appeared in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and were available only to pharaohs, kings, and nobles. An old specimen has survived to this day - the chair of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, who ruled in the XIII century BC. This is a throne made of wood, trimmed with gold, decorated with mosaics. Armrests are made in the form of walking lions. This ancient chair looks quite familiar: the seat, back, legs, and armrests.
